Quote of the day:
If Today Was a Fish, I'd Throw It Back In
- Song title
This will be a relatively short entry. I woke up at 4 am and it took me over two hours to get back to sleep. Since I didn't get to bed till around 12:30, I'm figuring my sleep total is hovering right around 5.5 hours, which is at least 2 hours short for me. Yeargh. I hope no one needs me to think very much today.
I have things on my mind, but nothing I can write about here. Though it's not a true moral dilemma, it is certainly a thorny one. It's one of those issues that doesn't have a clear cut answer. To go one way is to go with the truth and possibly either hurt someone else or drive a big wedge into the relationship. To go the other is to deny my own opinions and perhaps drive a different wedge into a different relationship. In the grand scheme of things, neither choice will likely change my situation much - if at all.
Perhaps sometimes it's enough to have your epiphany, acknowledge it, then get on with life. One thing I sometimes feel almost certain about is that you can't get inside other peoples' heads and change their opinions about you. They will think what they will think. As long as I can look myself in the mirror without cringing (except maybe at the sight of the crow's feet and grey hairs ;), I'll be fine.
One note that might be of interest to the TiVo crowd, courtesy of Bruce, who found it in the AVS Forum. If you use the RF Out connection from the TiVo to the television and/or VCR, you won't get a stereo signal. This discovery ended an approximately six month long mystery for me. The solution is to run video cables (or video dubbing cables - the kind with three RCA mini jacks on each end) between the TiVo and the television set and also between the TiVo and the VCR. That second set is important only if you want to dump TiVo recordings to tape, I imagine.
It took an hour or so to pull all the components out, remove the coax connection between the TiVo and the television, and hook it all up with the new cables, but the effort was worth it. Live television now sounds a LOT better. Many thanks to my favorite tech support guy for not only figuring out the original problem, but coming up with the answer to my brief VCR problem. (If you change the VCR input from coax to the new cables, be sure to tell the VCR about the new Line input source. Duh.)
