Quote of the day:

"Only sick music makes money today."

- Nietzsche (1844-1900) in 1888

Sleep is good. I found it at around 9:45 last night and kept it in my grasp till nearly 7 this morning. Thank goodness. I now believe I can make it through till Friday night without falling face-first into my keyboard.

Quirks. Great word, that. It even sounds... well... quirky, doesn't it?

Before I start teasing others, I best list some of my own quirks. Seems only fair.

I don't like having anything on my face. (Mom says that I was like that even as an infant. I was the only kid out of her three that couldn't stand having milk, crumbs, or anything else on my face. I fussed until she removed whatever it was.) This doesn't extend to water or anything radical like that. It only shows up now as a very strong dislike of letting my hair fall onto my forehead, rest against my cheek, etc. Can't imagine how I lived with short haircuts all those years, since they almost always involve bangs. (Get your minds out of the gutter.) This aversion probably explains why I have so much trouble wearing eyeglasses.

My living room can have magazines, DVDs, paper plates, laundry, craft projects, dust and just about anything else sitting all over the place, but I like to keep my car clean. (Except for the trunk, which usually looks like I'm heading home after a garage sale.)

I'm very nervous about stairs - mostly when going down. I will walk half a block to an elevator rather than take two flights down. Oddly, although I'm not crazy about it, I don't have the same feeling about climbing stairs. (Probably because I have twice fallen down a flight of stairs. If you can avoid ever doing so, I strongly recommend it.)

Even in the dead of winter or the blazing heat of summer, I really like to have one car window open about an inch. I don't go crazy if this is impossible, but I usually feel as if there's not enough oxygen coming into the car.

I love darkened rooms. (No surprise there. I'm well-known for sitting in the dark in my office. The plant guy won't even give me another one, since he seems to think they require some sort of light source in order to live. Pshaw!) Excuse: my eyes are rather light sensitive and after 6 years as a keypunch operator sitting under bright flourescent lights, I grew to really appreciate the dark.

I dislike sitting with my back to a door. Probably because my father was a policeman. (Ok, that's a bad explanation, but it's the only one I can come up with.)

Fountain drinks are better than bottled or canned. (Usually. Bad mixes notwithstanding.)

Store-bought cookies should be stored in the refrigerator. Home made cookies must be stored on the counter.

Paper plates and plastic cutlery are fine with me, but I prefer glass glasses to plastic (in general). Some plastic tends to hold a soapy smell that bothers me. Notable exception: acrylic tumblers and glasses are generally okay. Don't ask me why.

I don't like flying. This one is a problem, as it means I don't do things that I'd probably enjoy because of it. :/

I love good kitchen equipment. I have a set of Henckel's knives that cost over $200 ten years ago, and pans that cost me a small fortune to collect, but I prefer plastic or rubber mixing bowls. Martha Stewart would hate me, I'm sure. (The rubber or plastic variety of bowls are lighter than ceramic and thus easier to handle. Stainless steel is ok, but they don't stand up well to soaking in the sink.)

Uhh.. that's enough for today. I have lots more quirks, but in rereading this I'm beginning to feel as though I am sounding just a touch neurotic. I'll add more when the rest of you list some of your quirks. :)

Bear - difficult as it may be right now, the world does tend to unfold as it should. There's a reason for this - the trick is in figuring out what that reason is. (Ideally, something good will happen because of it.)

Gryph - your link to your beloved's web site is broken. (So was my own link to his site as well as Susan's. Luckily, Melissa has us all beat organization-wise.)

Bubba - so are you going to update your journal one of these days? *poke* If not, I'll tell Bruce to grumble at you directly. ;)

Corey - Is your doctor at least cute? :) (Hang in there, sweets!)

Johnny - Have you considered leaving some lights on and seeing if the spooks turn them off? Could be that they just don't like the dark, ya know. :)
